Your 10 Best Kitchen Renovation Trends and Ideas for 2021
Written by Jason Lawson on July 5, 2021
Your home is up to your design. Adding in trends with long-lasting value can give your kitchen a modern look and personal feel that will truly make your house a home. They say that the kitchen is the heart of the home, so make it indicative of your spirit with these top kitchen renovation trends for 2021.

1. Paint the Cabinets

Across social media sites you’ll find a fascination with colorful kitchens. These kitchens turn the drab natural wood colors of an average kitchen into a place of creativity that alerts all of your senses. Try out a warm shade to bring in a sense of calm and peace or a light, pastel shade to spark creativity and add fun to your cooking area.

2. Bring the Outdoors In

We’ve seen a trend of bringing the outdoors in this past year and adding plants and natural colors and textures into your kitchen can be the perfect way to add a sense of nature into your home.

Try mixing neutral colors and clear windows and walls mixed with indoor plants, real or fake. This will give your kitchen the spirit of the outdoors right here in your home.

3. Rustic Kitchens

We’re seeing a rise in rustic, farmhouse style kitchens. These kitchens have exposed brick, natural wood, and other farm-style accents. Modernize the look of your kitchen with color and new appliances alongside the rustic renovation.

4. Open Shelving

Ditch the cabinets all together with open shelving. With this style, showcase your dishes and silverware with pride. Not only does this trend show off your fine China, it also foregoes having to lecture your family on closing the cabinets every time they go to grab a plate. Add an open dish rack, hang your pots and pans from the wall, and leave your spice rack in an open spot. This style will make your kitchen feel lived-in and give it a sense of organized chaos.

5. Stand-Out Kitchen Sink

Make your kitchen sink stand out amongst the rest of your kitchen. Set your sink as one color up against the contrasting colors of the cabinets and surfaces around it. This is a small trend that will add a bit more dimension and intrigue to your kitchen.

6. Mix and Match Metals

Experiment with different colors of metals in your kitchen. The sleek look of all stainless-steel appliances and details is out. Add copper, gold, bronze, and other colored metals to your kitchen to truly make it feel one of a kind. These colors can even be mixed. Add a gold faucet overtop of a silver sink. Add a gold backsplash to silver countertops. Experiment around and try different styles until you find a mix of metals that matches your personality.

7. Large Kitchen Islands

Large kitchen islands are starting to make their way into the home. Having a large island as the centerpiece of your kitchen is a great idea for a few reasons. For one, it adds surface area that you can prep, cook, and serve on. Also, it allows for an informal dining area. Place bar seats around your kitchen island for guests to sit and chat on while the food is being prepared and eat snacks and appetizers while the meal is on its way. After all, the chef deserves to have company around them while they work.

8. Update the Ceiling

We forget about ceilings by focusing on the walls around us and the floor we’re standing on. However, a decorated and renovated ceiling can pull the entire kitchen together and add a bit more dimension to your kitchen. Try painting the ceiling an accent color to make the room pop or add beams to bring in that farmhouse style we talked about earlier. Don’t neglect that fifth wall that protects the space below it.

9. Open Kitchens

Rather than blocking off your kitchen from your living room or bedroom, combine them. Similar to how a studio apartment has a bedroom right next to the kitchen, we’re seeing kitchens flow into living spaces even in large homes. This makes the kitchen a central point to not only cook, but also hangout in. Also, having an open layout can even make your space seem bigger. Tear down those walls and open your space up!

Try Different Trends

Many of these trends you can mix and match to create a style of kitchen that’s uniquely your own. Follow your heart and lean in to what designs speak to you. Sprucing up your kitchen is a great place to start for any home renovation.
